Description
Rotator cuff tendinitis is an inflammation (irritation and swelling) of the tendons in the shoulder. Ball-shaped shoulder joint and socket type joint where the top of the arm bone (humerus) forms a joint with the scapula.
Inflammation of the tendons of the shoulder muscles can occur in sports that require the arm to swing over and over again like in tennis, baseball, swimming and lifting weights. Chronic inflammation or injury can cause torn rotator cuff tendons. Risk factors include age above 40 years of age or do sports or exercises that involve repetitive arm movements such as baseball.
Symptom
* The pain associated with arm movement
* Pain in the shoulder at night, especially when lying on the affected shoulder
* Weaknesses to raise their hands above their heads, or pain during activity that allows raised his hand above his head like combing hair, reaching for objects on shelves, etc..
Treatment
Treatment is done by resting the shoulder and avoid activities that cause pain. Physical therapy to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles is important to be done. If the pain persisted or if the therapy is not possible due to severe pain, steroid injections can reduce pain and inflammation. But if it had maintained the rotator cuff tear, or if symptoms are still underway, although the therapy was performed, surgery may be necessary. Surgery can improve the inflammation around the shoulder.
